Location & Attractions
Arkleside is situated in the centre of Reeth, overlooking Fremington Edge. Reeth itself is located in the heart of Swaledale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Reeth has plenty of craft shops, a folk museum and historic inns, all set in stunning scenery. Swaledale is famous for its hardy breed of sheep and the spectacular wildflower meadows which are a blaze of colour in June and early July.
The villages of Swaledale are full of corners to explore and there are endless opportunities for walking. You can enjoy a farm visit at Hazel Brow Farm, Low Row or hire mountain bikes at Grinton.
Leading from Reeth, the Arkengarthdale road rises steeply into lead mining country; an industry which thrived here until the turn of the century. More sparsely populated than Swaledale, Arkengarthdale has a bleak and dramatic appeal.
